Nonlinear Time-Dependent Behaviour of Concrete Insulated Panel

The insulated structural sandwich panel is a composite laminated structure, made of two stiff skin faces and lightweight thick core. The low-density low-shear rigidity laminated think core (foam, honeycomb) is structurally connected to the laminated skin faces by structural adhesive. The rigid skin (concrete, steel, wood) faces provide high bending stiffens for such lightweight structure, while the core resist the local buckling of the skin faces. The time-dependent deflection behaviour of the concrete insulated panel (CIP) varies with the change of the span-to-depth ratio for the instantaneous deflection, and the cyclic change of temperature and relative humidity over time. This paper discusses the nonlinear theoretical analysis for long-term creep deflection under sustained load that accounts for loads, time, temperature and relative humidity.

BUILDING WITH BASE ISOLATION TECHNIQUES

Base isolation (BI) system for buildings is introduced to decouple the building structure from potentially damaging induced by earthquake motion, preventing the building superstructures from absorbing the earthquake energy. The mechanism of the base isolator increases the natural period of the overall structure, and decreases its acceleration response to earthquake / seismic motion. A steel building with structural rubber bearing is introduced throughout this study. The study analysis performed to check for the adequacy of the base isolation against building lateral drift and inter-story drift as per allowance in National Building Code of Canada 2010. Two buildings were analyzed using the nonlinear time history response analysis using the dynamic MODAL analysis for fixed base (FB) building, and Isolated base (IB) building with rubber bearing. The analysis represents a case study for symmetric steel building to show the ultimate capacity of the selected structural bearing, and to make a comparison for the difference between the isolated base and the fixed base buildings. Initial results show that the presence of the structural rubber bearing reduces significantly the vertical displacement, moment and shear generated for the same mode.

ABSTRACT:

To accelerate bridge construction, precast full-depth deck panels (FDDPs) are placed over steel girders with transverse joints. In this paper, a transverse angle-joint is proposed with female shear key and bottom tongue. The joint has projecting glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars from the precast panels and is filled with ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). Ultimate static, constant fatigue and variable fatigue load tests were performed under truck wheel footprint showed good results.
